The two common visible indicators that computer is not frozen completely
are (1) the mouse cursor moves, perhaps erratically; and (2) the LED
indicating hard disk activity (also not 100% reliable).

Has anyone tried wiring the HD activity LED to a small speaker?
Obviously, this is not much of an option for a laptop or other CPU with
a tight case.
