RE: 508 standards
I do testing of software and for 508 issues. I have a few questions on compliance. actually, would like some input and your thoughts.
I use Magic magnifier. I set the magnifier to "LENS" view, the lens view should tab to all the links on the page. But it will not. Some would consider this a 508 issue. Another would say, all they have to do is put it to "FULL" view in the magnifier.
So my question is: As long as one has access to the page either thru JAWS and MAGIC is this good enough, considering we do not know what kind of OS they are using? If magic wont tab to links in the lens view, the user can use the full view? Is this acceptable?
We do follow standards where I work, but sometimes things like: JAWS wont read all the acronyms, or tabbing wont work on certain pages with Magic, Magic wont tab to navigation bar.... are these major concerns? Some say "let it go", some say " everything needs fixed"
Where do you draw the line on standards ? I think everything should be fixed, even if JAWS reads a few words wrong.
Is it ok the tabbing doesn't work on a few pages? or if MAGIC wont tab to the links.? AM I being to "harse" trying to fix every little detail?
* I was put in charge of 508 standards for the Company. I am looking for a happy medium between testers and developers.
Thanks for your input,
Tammy M.
