This Overview contains a selection of emerging information and communications technologies (ICT) intended to provide a sense of how future ICT could impact disability access research, development, and policy. These advances can provide both new opportunities and new challenges for people with disabilities, including many elders. The Overview includes technologies currently in research and development, some that have been demonstrated in the laboratory as prototypes, and products that are already commercially available.

Items in this Overview were selected by Trace Center staff because they illustrate significant changes that consumer groups, researchers, product developers, standards bodies, and government regulators should be aware of. The selection will be updated periodically.

Please note: This is not a collection of all the latest advances in technology. Rather, it is meant to be a summary for people not familiar with recent technical advances.
