Government Resources for Regulatory Information Links
The following is a list of Web sites that Trace Center staff have found particularly useful to check for updated information on regulatory or other government activities related to information technology and telecommunications.
- DisabilityInfo.gov provides information and links to federal government websites (and selected other websites) related to employment, education, housing, transportation, health, benefits, technology, community life, and civil rights. It is maintained by the U.S. Dept. of Labor, Office of Disability Employment Policy.
- U.S. Access Board is an independent Federal agency devoted to accessibility for people with disabilities. This site features accessibility guidelines and standards for Section 255 (telecommunications accessibility), Section 508 (federal procurement of accessible electronic and information technology), as well as ADA regulations.
- The General Services Administration (GSA) Section 508 Web Site includes information and on-line training related to Section 508 implementation for government agencies and vendors.
- Federal Communication Commission (FCC) Consumer & Government Affairs Bureau has a section on disability issues, with links to pages summarizing FCC actions and pending actions or information on disability access-related issues, including closed captioning, video description, telephone relay service (TRS), and Section 255.
- The Department of Justice Disability Rights Section is responsible for enforcement of Section 508, ADA, and other disability rights laws; this site contains some useful references on all federal regulations related to disability rights.
- National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) is part of the U.S. Department of Education. It administers research, training, dissemination, and utilization programs authorized under the Rehabilitation Act and the Assistive Technology Act.
- Interagency Committee on Disability Research has a number of resources, including "Technology Assessment of the U.S. Assistive Technology Industry."
- The National Council on Disability (NCD) is an independent federal agency making recommendations to the President and Congress on issues affecting Americans with disabilities.
