Enlarging the ToolTip Text

ToolTip text is the "help" text that appears when the users rest the mouse cursor on a menu icon in Microsoft application programs. For example, when the user rests the mouse cursor on the floppy disk icon in the toolbar of Microsoft Word, the word "save" appears. This text can both be enlarged, and the background color of the text can be changed.

Instructions for modifying ToolTip text:

  1. Begin by opening the Control Panel found under "Settings" from the Start menu.
  2. Double-click on the Display icon in the Control Panel. A small Display Properties screen will appear.
  3. Click on the Appearance tab on the top of the Display Properties screen. A second Appearance screen will be shown inside of the Display Properties screen.
  4. Select "Tooltip" from the pull down menu in the "Item" field of the Appearance screen.
  5. Use the available pull-down menus to select the font and background color of the Tooltip text. You may also choose to have the Tooltip text displayed in Bold or Italics.
  6. Click the "Apply" button and the Tooltip text will be changed for all programs.
